Persistent storms over the past week have intensified the extremely difficult situation of the vast number of displaced civilians in the region, as reported by humanitarian organizations.
"Horrendous" Conditions Creates Serious Dangers
A representative detailed the weather overnight as "terrible", with precipitation so severe that around 15cm (6in) of water accumulated on the terrain.
"The recent weather was really difficult for the families. The downpours were so intense... And the gales were so powerful," stated the representative.
Officials express extreme concern that minors residing in tents in damp clothing will succumb to hypothermia and other illnesses.
Deaths and Significant Loss
Health authorities have stated that one baby has died from exposure and no fewer than 11 other people have been killed in building collapses due to the storms.
Other reports put a increased fatality count. Spokespeople reported that numerous homes had fully given way and scores had collapsed partially.
- Nearly 55,000 families harmed by rains.
- More than 40 emergency safe spaces severely flooded.
- Countless residents compelled to move once more.
Relief Efforts Seen as Inadequate
Agencies have escalated shipments of shelter, bedding and clothing after the ceasefire commenced, but they have said there is still not enough aid getting in.
"Officials are operating tirelessly to deliver that relief and to hand it out, but the size of the necessities is so immense that we still have many thousands of people and minors who are truly enduring hardship each evening," warned one official.
Long-Term Challenges and Truce Terms
The second phase of the ceasefire encompasses proposals for the reconstruction of Gaza, along with political arrangements, the pullback of troops, and other provisions.
Relief groups have highlighted the imperative for "expanded and ongoing humanitarian assistance to meet immediate and future needs."
The conflict was initiated by an attack in the autumn of 2023. Following military operations have resulted in a substantial number of fatalities in the region, based on official figures.
