An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and provided them to children at a summer program in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two young males both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was taken into custody after eight youngsters and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
However, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was remanded in custody before a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She stated his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".
She stated to the judge Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the man had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the youngsters being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor continued: "Recently" his stepson had concerns about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained items including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his stepson contacted the authorities about his concerns.
She explained the man proceeded to play the "candy game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
The legal representative explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police again.
She stated the man then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five minors.
